How we're revolutionizing chocolate
KAKO Chocolates was born out of my personal needs when I could not find the quality of chocolate I was looking for when I as I went through health issues in my late 20s.
For months, I had been trying all sorts of different chocolates. I wanted to avoid brands that used any type of sugar in their chocolates since our bodies do not distinguish the difference between sugar coming from a date, cane sugar, or coconut sugar.
I wanted to help bring down my inflammation levels and ensure I was balancing my blood sugar in order to assist with my hormonal imbalances, and I needed to be mindful of my sugar intake due to gut dysbiosis.
This removed all of the chocolate brands using any type of sugar and I was left with chocolates that used sugar alcohols to sweeten their chocolates.
I found sugar alcohols greatly affected my digestive system; gas, bloating, and more (not fun!) no matter which brand I would try.
After being unable to find a high-quality, no sugar, no sugar alcohol, and no dairy brand, I decided to start making my own chocolate. Once I tried my chocolate, I never looked back! I couldn't believe how delicious it was and I realized you don't need all the sugars and sugar alcohols typically found in chocolate.
Over 3+ years of making my chocolate, I kept reiterating my recipe to where it is today!
Typical dark chocolates are 50%-70% and some can be lower, which means much of the chocolate bar, if not majority, is sugar, not cacao, for every bite you take!
We pride ourselves on being a true zero sugar chocolate that is 100% antioxidant packed where we only use organic monk fruit to sweeten our chocolates and nothing else - no sugar alcohols or sugar or any kind.
Our chocolate base is 3 organic ingredients: organic cacao, organic monk fruit, and organic vanilla bean - that’s it. My recipe started in my kitchen after all!
KAKO Chocolates are also handmade chocolates in small batches in LA vs. mass manufactured and mass produced overseas using low-quality and manmade ingredients (there’s nothing natural about a seed oil!). No preservatives, no fillers, no emulsifiers, no stabilizers, no artificial or natural flavors, and no seed oils.
Making our chocolates in small batches in LA with the highest quality, organic ingredients is more expensive, but we are on a mission to create a new chocolate experience with beautiful handmade chocolates where you can taste & feel the difference.
When I was going through my health journey, I wanted to create guilt-free chocolate where I did not need to obsess over portions because I knew I was only eating high-quality and healthful foods which allow me to feel satiated, and satisfied, instead of craving for more sugary foods.
Sugar is very additive (moreso than drugs!) where we can keep eating it without ever feeling full, it lights up our brain, we have withdrawals from it, and because it sends us on blood sugar rollercoasters, we crave more carbs/sugar quickly to get the next "hit". Scary, right!?
